After an initial introduction to antonyms, we boosted our study of antonyms by reading Fred and Ted Go Camping. This text provided a great supply of antonyms to read and discuss.

Thanks to a lovely idea found at First Grade Fever!, we created our own "ANTonym Hill," as an extension activity, which my students loved. According to our anthill, "up" and "down" seem to be favorites among my students. They were incredibly precise with their placement of ants on the hill as well. The one on top was not there just by chance! We also used the corresponding ant-themed antonyms sorting activity in centers throughout the week. It has been a perfect center activity. Check it out for yourself at First Grade Fever.
